“If I were a bug or weed, I would live in Florida,” laughs Mike Augaitis, Owner of Florida Gardens Lawn & Shrub Care, Inc. And Mike has over 25 years’ experience with bugs, weeds and Tampa Bay area lawns as a certified lawn and ornamental pest control expert. “The climate here is just perfect for bugs, weeds and tree diseases that can seriously destroy your lawn.”

Mike has a great reputation for taking good care of his clients and for being environmentally responsible. His company is certified in the University of Florida’s Green Industry Best Management Practices and he extends that process to all of his residential and commercial projects

Mike shared his 6 most important tips with us for getting the yard ready for summer.

  1. Check your sprinkler system: Make sure it is working correctly and efficiently. Hot, dry weather is around the corner.
  2. Pruning: Make sure trees and shrubs are cut back to proper size. This allows the sun to extend into dense bushes and trees.
  3. Get your landscape beds weeded and mulched. This will get them ready for the rain and heat of summer. It will also help prevent pesky new weeds from coming up.
  4. Mowing: Get those blades sharpened! A sharp cut will help with disease and keep the grass healthy. This is something to address with your lawn service or whoever handles your mowing.
  5. Fertilization: Now is the time to get the landscape on a regular schedule of fertilizer and pest control. Don’t forget my saying, “If I were a bug or weed I’d live in Florida.” Let’s not make it any easier for the critters here!
  6. Take the time to monitor your property regularly and make sure it looks the way you want it to look. If not, I’d be happy to assess your yard and develop a program that would achieve the curb appeal that you’re looking for.
