4 Home Activities for Hunkering Down

-4 Home Activities for Hunkering Down-

In Florida, you could get creative with home activities when hunkering down on stormy days. To help you pass the time, our Tampa Bay real estate team is listing ideas for staying productive in any weather.

  1. First, utilize this free time to plan and create autumn to-do lists.

Yes, the first thing on our list is to make other lists. It is one of the easiest home activities to complete, and it is well worth your time. Simply sit down with your phone, tablet, or a pen and paper.  Make to-do lists for things you want to get done around the house.  This may include cleaning to-dos, home repairs, appliance upgrades, new purchases, or project budgets.

  1. Next, try tackling the clutter in a specific space of your home.

Oftentimes, home activities can be easier when you focus on a specific area.  For example, you could declutter the hall closet or reorganize the pantry during a rainy afternoon. Either way, be sure to fill a box or bag with donation items.  From food to bedding and towels, there are many people in need of different items. Also, tossing out junk and cleaning the space could make room for any new items on your purchase lists.

  1. Take action to perform a deep cleaning throughout your home.

Hunkering down is also an opportunity to give your house a deep cleaning. We all know the importance of spring cleaning, but fall cleanings are also necessary. Projects include mopping muddy footprints around your entrances, wiping dust and pollen off the baseboards, cleaning the indoor windowpanes, or simply sanitizing high-use areas in kitchens and baths.

  1. Productively, make use of time even during power outages.

With Florida’s volatile weather, there may be power outages when hunkering down. There are many productive tasks and home activities you can still do without electricity in Hillsborough, Pinellas, or Pasco County.

Of course, writing to-do lists with a pen or de-cluttering closets would not require power. You could also sort through personal items. Ideas include organizing old photos, filing documents, labeling items, rearranging furniture, or organizing cabinets around your house, condo, or villa.

Specifically, hunkering down is a great opportunity to replace contact paper and liners in cupboards and drawers. It is helpful to buy self-adhesive contact paper in advance or keep peel-and-stick linings on hand for when you have free time for projects and other home activities.

Our real estate team hopes these ideas help you stay productive in a happy, clean, and safe home. Of course, be sure to abide by any evacuation orders during major storms.

For official guidance on storm preparedness and evacuation zones, review FEMA’s website, www.floodsmart.gov, and local sites like www.hillsboroughcounty.org, www.pinellascounty.org, and www.pascocountyfl.net.
