Top Home Staging Tips That Will Sell Your House Quickly
Want to bring more potential buyer traffic to your home? A well-appointed and carefully staged home is the best way to make an outstanding first impression. We’ve asked our go-to home organizing pro, Susan Layden of Susan’s Organizing Solutions, to outline her home staging strategy for us.
Staging your home for selling purposes doesn’t just happen on the inside. Set the stage for an impressive showing, right from the curb. Make sure your lawn is maintained and sidewalks are clean of all debris and toys. Consider pressure washing the front of the house as well as your sidewalks. Finally, don’t forget to wash those windows! All of these details contribute to a striking“drive-by” for potential buyers.
Next, let’s move inside and clean the house until it’s spotless. Scrub anything and everything until it sparkles and smells fresh. Speaking of scent, make sure your pets are out of the home when you know that a potential buyer is coming. Not everyone likes animals so remove all pet toys, bedding and of course, Swiffer up any loose fur.
Now it’s time to clear out the clutter. We all are guilty of having too much stuff and this is the perfect time to cleanse your life of it. People are trying to envision themselves living in your house so it’s best to remove any personal items, photos and belongings which can distract from the new prospect’s own vision. Plus, we want to convey the feeling of spaciousness that unadorned hallway walls will provide.
Let’s step back and admire your clutter-less home! Go room by room and consider whether the furniture needs rearranging to maximize each room’s space.Contrary to popular thought, furniture doesn’t need to always be up against a wall. In fact, a “floating furniture” design is where certain pieces ‘float’ in the room to create a more intimate atmosphere that better utilizes your space. It helps set the stage for every room having a purpose. Even those awkward spaces, like that area underneath the stairs, could be put to good use with stylish accents or a well-positioned console table.
Finally, don’t forget to clear out your closets. Closet space is a huge selling point for buyers so expect that your closets and cabinets will be opened and critiqued. Pair down what’s in these significantly to make it look roomy, but useful. All of these tips may seem like momentous projects to undertake but it will all be worth it when you sell your home quickly.
